Swine flu is getting a grip on the southern hemisphere as it heads into winter, according to the latest figures.
Worldwide the total number of confirmed cases was creeping towards 20,000 with the disease having taken hold in the southern hemisphere
Some 100 cases have been reported in Argentina, 297 in Australia and 250 in Chile.
In total 62 countries have now reported some 17,410 cases. But deaths remain confined to north and central America.
In Britain, the number of cases of swine flu yesterday as some 61 new cases were confirmed in England.
In total some 339 cases have been confirmed in the UK including 42 in Scotland.
Up to three people were reported to be critically ill in Glasgow, Scotland, with the disease, including a previously health man aged 45.
And more than 200 other people were being investigated for infection in the UK.
