Three nurses have gained a chance to pursue projects to boost ethnic minority health in honour of nursing pioneer Mary Seacole.
The three were yesterday presented with Mary Seacole awards at the Royal College of Nursing.
Ofrah Muflahi, from Dudley, will be using her award to help improve the health of children and young adults with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.
Pamela Shaw, a Wakefield health visitor, will be looking at how to use the contribution of NHS professionals from black and minority ethnic backgrounds to improve diversity training.
And Gloria Urhoma, a midwife from Wexham Park Hospital, will be seeking to develop maternity information videos for non-English speakers.
Winners are awarded up to £12,500 to pursue projects.
The awards were presented by Joan Saddler, national director of patient and public affairs at the department of health.
