Senior GPs have urged the parents to ensure their children get the MMR vaccine as measles continues to spread in South Wales, UK.
They were backed by health secretary Jeremy Hunt yesterday who issued a public plea for families to seek vaccination.
Dozens more cases in the Swansea area led the number of infected children to reach 765.
Dr George Kassianos, of the Royal College of GPs, said parents should not hold out for single measles vaccines – as advocated by some campaigners – as this would lead to children needing many more injections.
He said: "The MMR is one of the safest and most scrutinised vaccines we have ever had; there is no scientific evidence that single vaccines provide any more of an advantage to children."
In Sussex, the chair of the Horsham and Mid-Sussex clinical commissioning group, GP Dr Minesh Patel, added his voice to those pressing for parents to seek vaccination.
Dr Patel said: "We believe there could be many children who have never had it.
"The more children who are protected, the lower risk there is of a measles outbreak and the potential for children to be seriously ill or even die."
