Patients to meet experts at London summit
Friday September 12th, 2008
Allergy patients have a unique chance to to meet professionals and discuss the future of treatment in Britain.
A session of nearly five hours at the Royal Society of Medicine next month will cover a range of topics.
The RSM is unique among medical societies in not being confined exclusively to doctors - and specialises in bringing together professionals and campaigners across disciplines.
RSM president Baroness Ilora Finlay will bring participants up to date on the drive for regional allergy centres - recommended by the House of Lords last year.
Dr Pam Ewan, of Cambridge University, will discuss the professional view on anaphylaxis while Karen Brunas will give a patient point of view.
Charges for the event, on the afternoon of October 20th, have been geared towards patients, who will pay just £15 each or £40 for a family to attend at the RSM at Wimpole Street, London. In contrast RSM fellows will pay ?65.
An RSM spokesman said: "These meetings bring together patients, their families, carers, advocates, patient support groups, clinicians and researchers to discuss care and research issues in a particular condition.
"Medicine and Me conferences aim to provide a forum in which patients' concerns about their illness are given top priority."
