TV star shares allergy secrets

Friday September 5th, 2008

Actress Finola HughesA British actress who made it big in Hollywood has urged householders to protect their homes against allergy during the autumn.

Pollen and other allergens will have found its way into fabrics and central heating systems during the summer, according to Emmy Award winning actress Finola Hughes.

Finola suffers from allergy and has tips for sufferers to make their homes comfortable places to live.

She says books and clutter can be "dust magnets" and removing them has helped her.

"Simple tips" such as washing sheets weekly in hot water also help - as does keeping pets out of the bedroom.

She also supports encasing pillows and mattresses with barrier protectors.

She said: "Allergy-proofing your home this fall isn't a chore," says Hughes. "It's simple! Don't hesitate to make these tips your own. Give allergy-proofing your own signature style. Experiment and see what works best for you and your family."

Finola Hughes was for a long time a star of the soap opera General Hospital and now hosts a television lifestyle programme.
